“Yes, I’m Black and Jewish”
The American Jewish community includes many Jews with African-American backgrounds. They belong to each of the major American Jewish denominations. There are also black Jews who are from all over Africa, including Ethiopia, where they are known as Beta Israel, or House of Israel, and date back to the 4th century. Although there are only approximately 15 million Jews globally, they live all over the world and are of all races. People can be born Jewish, or they can convert.
